Making self-made clothes have always been a dream and I'm glad I finally took the leap at this school. I love the flexibility of the course, as someone with a full-time job, attending the classes on weekends according to my availability is great.

In class, I could pick any clothes I'd like to make for myself (I picked a beginner course which comprises a blouse, skirt and dress). I'd show the picture to Ms Kal and she would advise on the pattern construction and the fabric to purchase. Ms Kal breaks down the complexity of the garment into simple doable steps at our own pace.

Last but not least, the place itself is such a vibe ✨ . It's spacious, there's a dedicated sewing station, the interior is simply lovely! Sometimes it feels like Project Runway where we're all busy with our own projects minus the deadline 😂.

If you're looking for a school where you have control over your creative processes and a flexible environment, this is the place to go.

i was a student for almost a year and the experience was unsatisfactory, especially at the end due to insufficient help in the studio as all the staff resigned. Prior to that, the studio was pleasant, there was always help on hand but unfortunately, the most competent and helpful staff that kept the school afloat quit.

If you do not mind learning at a place where requests for help will be met with a YouTube link, under a teacher with questionable employer/employee ethics and courses that are overpriced for the teaching you get, this is the right school for you.

So, for comparison - SSFS studio’s rates are 400 per piece of clothing, while MuSpace can tailor dressmaking assistance for 1000 per outfit (2 items per outfit), compared to the 12k D Sew Club charges for ‘the complete dressmaking course’ of 12 garments.

Full disclosure, I wrote a 5 star review 2 months in, when things were good and my excitement gave me rose tinted glasses, and at her request to leave a review as well. The review was later removed by ms Kal after I wrote some hard truths questioning the legality of employers deducting more than the employee epf contritbutjon to cover employer epf share, knowing what the original agreed salary was because i saw the agreement. Her response was ‘the employee did not complain’ Ms Kal insists everything is above board but it’s not true. I find it all - including her impression management to address or delete negative reviews and making new students (after me) sign a clause saying they won’t talk negatively about the school, highly unscrupulous.

Just saying this as full disclosure. I’m sure she’ll respond painting her as innocent. Oh well. Also, she mentioned from day 1 the 8 month was extendable and to not worry about the time. I was virtually a full time student but the lack of help and my being a beginner meant everything took much longer. Here is me in the studio to prove I was a student:

As your teacher, I remember your amazing designs and thought process behind them. It’s never easy to read a review like this especially when everything possible under sun was done to amend the situation, but there is only so much so that can be done.You’re right—towards the end of your course, we faced unexpected staff transitions that affected the level of support in the studio. I acknowledge that this impacted your experience, and that’s precisely why your 8-month course was extended to a full year, at no extra cost, to ensure you had more time to complete your learning. Along with that you were always given the flexibility to book your classes as and when your time permitted without any requirement to book in advance which no other learning centre allows.However, I do want to gently clarify a few points. Your concerns about staff salaries and internal operations seem to stem from a misunderstanding. I assure you that our 1 full time staff was compensated fairly and in accordance with legal standards. I’m happy to provide salary breakup and written confirmation from her (or you can check with her as you have her number already).If you feel there’s unfinished learning or support you still need, I’d be more than willing to offer additional time or guidance to help you complete your journey. I took the Beginner Course B and enjoyed every moment of it. Ms.Kal is patient and extremely knowledgeable from her years of experience. I was given a free rein over the type of clothes I wanted to make (sometimes I’d just find pictures on Pinterest, compile them and show it to Ms.Kal), although Ms.Kal was always around the advise on the type of fabric to purchase and the complexity of the pattern I was making. She always readily answered any questions I had and explained things really well and simply — super helpful for beginners. By the end of the course (I took about a year to complete, attended once a week for about 3 hours on weekends) I gained a better understanding on garment-making and pattern manipulation — I’ve now fully decided that I really do enjoy making clothes and it’s my newfound hobby, this wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance received from Ms.Kal!
I found this school via Google search + reviews + newspaper articles so thought I’d help any aspiring seamstresses by leaving an honest review of my experience here as someone with a full-time office job. The schedule offered by this school is really flexible and you can attend any time throughout its opening hours on the weekend. Plenty of like-minded individuals so the people you meet here are great too. Studio is huge and spacious, plenty of workstations and kept very neat, clean, and tidy. I’d recommend to anyone interested in making their own clothes!

I never expected to be able to manufacture clothes of the "Zara, Urban Revivo, Uniqlo, or H&M" quality following this course. However, the shirt I made in this course much exceeded my expectations.

What is essential to me is not the outcome, but the process. Maybe I'll only wear this shirt for a year or two before throwing it away, but what I've learned here, the experiences I've had, and the connections I've made will be with me my entire life.

It is a nice, lovely setting, as well as a good and effective course for an amateur like me who knows nothing about sewing techniques or sewing skills and wants to grasp how a garment is constructed.

To that degree, this course is beneficial and meets my expectations.

The International Sewing School is a great place for beginners with no experience to learn sewing. Overall environment is very cozy and the people there are very friendly. I like the fact that you could request for a specialized course tailored just for you - like I did, which was really awesome! So I was genuinely pleased and grateful to Miss Kal when she agreed to create a specialized course just for me to make my own shirt despite my short period of stay in KL. Under Miss Kal’s patience and guidance, I have learnt alot here from zero knowledge in sewing to being able to draft and make my own clothes. The course is really fun and enjoyable and I can’t wait to explore the avenues of fashion and making my own garment. Thankful to Miss Kal and I highly recommend to those that are keen to learn sewing.

I’ve truly enjoyed attending classes here! The teachers and support staffs are incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and always ready to help. As someone with no prior experience in sewing or design, I found the classes to be very beginner-friendly and flexible. The learning environment is not only professional but also warm and encouraging. This school gives me a totally new experience and an eye-opener for me to learn a lot about fashion. I started my course with ZERO knowledge of sewing BUT with the teaching of Ms Kalpana I sewed a blouse, a skirt and a pant. Now looking forward to my dress ! All this is my own design, you desired it, she will teach you how to make your dream comes true.
As for the environment, it's very modern, rustic and calming environment for you to sew. Her assistants and fellow classmates, all are lovely and diversified.
Sewing is just not a skill, it is an art that we all should master of.

I’m so happy I found D Sew Club! The course I took is amazing I’ve learnt so much about making clothes I couldn’t find online! The instructor is really good and I’ve gotten a lot of insight on sewing and advice whilst learning to make outfits under her guidance! I highly recommend D Sew Club!

I came into this course 4 months ago with almost zero knowledge of clothes making and with the help of Kalpana I can proudly say that I've nearly mastered this art. She was very inclusive and patient while teaching, never letting anyone in the class feel left behind no matter their pace. The one thing I really enjoyed about this class was the approach she took in teaching us. Although everything was new and seemed complicated, she had this way of teaching and guiding us on how to navigate our way in the world of sewing without feeling too overwhelmed. I thoroughly enjoyed this course, it really proved that with the right teacher, age is never the barrier to learning a new set of skills. Kalpana is a very supportive, and patient teacher in this industry. and I am really lucky to have started my journey in sewing with her. With this, I wish her all the best with her next batch of students, I will definitely miss these classes and I am forever thankful for the knowledge and techniques I have learnt throughout this course.
